Baião

from Street Lights by Ian Rutherford

/

about

Baião (Portuguese pronunciation: [baˈjɐ̃w]) is a Northeastern Brazilian music genre and dance style based on a syncopated duple meter rhythm, based around the pulse of the zabumba, a flat, double-headed bass drum played with a mallet in one hand and a stick in the other, each striking the opposite head of the drum for alternating high and low notes

Searching for ideas a couple of years back I found a drum pattern by this name and used it for a little Latin jam.

As this style of music dates from the 1950's I wanted add a little sound of the club and also a bit of grit to the Fender Rhodes, even though it hadn't been invented then, just that early recording had that less than pristine sound.
