It’s late in the evening The fire is warm And the liquid embers Glow like gemstones Orange and red Waves of heat Ripple over the embers Hypnotic and enticing Verse 2 I want to reach in And grab one To hold it and feel the energy I want to move closer To look deep inside The mystical ripples That flow through the coals Chorus Let me dance with the embers Entwine with the flames Soak up the magic Of the glowing gemstones Dance with the embers Embrace their warmth Shimmering and glowing On fire in my mind Bridge The sounds of the sparks And the smell of the char Ancient memories evoked Images from afar Verse 3 Enticing, hypnotic Dangerous and beautiful Seductive, intoxicant Liquid passion consumed

about

Background – lots of influences …
Most of the ideas for this album, and nearly half the music, occurred sitting in a beach house up on a hill and looking out over the scenic Nelson Bay area in Port Stephens, NSW, Australia. Trees, birds, water, mountains - having a break and relaxing.

The idea behind Elemental is the four sections of Earth, Wind, Fire & Water each have three different tracks on an aspect of the element. One vocal per section (two in Fire). The music is quite diverse in style and includes a variety of sampled sounds to add to the elemental feel.

* Eruption *
Inspired by Keith Emerson from ELP who also used the same title for one of his songs.

* Mountains *
In my mind I was sitting on top of a misty mountain, probably Tibet, although I’ve never been there.

* Forest *
A walk through a northern Queensland rain forest (not sure how the Nelson Bay birds got that far north)

* Storm *
An orchestral piece with a stormy mood

* Clouds *
Reflections on life looking at clouds

* Zephyr *
Feeling of a light breeze. As a child I used to play from a piano book called “Zephyrs From Melody Land”

* Fire *
Progressive metal track inspired by an Australian bush fire

* Agni *
For some time now I have wanted to write a Hindi piece. Doing this was an amazing experience.

* Dance of the Embers *
Looking into an open fire – memories of my grandparents hearth and campfires

* River *
A rippling river

* Rain *
A playful piece on rain - having some fun with words too.

* Waves *
A good mate of mine is a fabulous Surf Rock guitarist and a chat with him inspired me to attempt this style. Ben plays on it too.

* Space-time *
Previous cultures have defined the elements as Earth, Wind, Fire & Water but from time to time you see The Ether referenced too. As a self-confessed science fan the modern take on Ether had to be Einstein’s Space-Time. A suitably “warped” piece
